Promoting the generation of opportunities for girls to get involved in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers is the premise with which Mastercard carried out a new edition of its Girls4Tech program, in which they participated virtually more than 300 girls from Mexico and 100 from Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama, aged between 8 and 12 years. During the virtual sessions of the program, the girls had the opportunity to access first-hand education on topics such as cryptography, fraud detection and topics related to the digital field, among others, which seeks to encourage their interest in technological careers and empower them to actively participate in the field of STEM knowledge.
For this occasion, the program was developed in 3 countries in the Central American region: Panama, Costa Rica and Guatemala, and had the participation of approximately 100 girls. For the successful execution of the initiative, Mastercard forged alliances with Fundavida (Costa Rica), Fundación STEM Panamá and in Guatemala Mobile Number List the case of Guatemala, the technology company joined with Fundación Luninari, Funda Niñas and Women Who Code. Additionally, the program had volunteers from Mastercard, who virtually trained the girls in the program. In Mexico, Mastercard's collaboration with 5 schools and 2 foundations attracted around 300 girls in order to expand their learning in technology topics.
By incorporating activities based on global science and mathematics standards and adding Mastercard's experience in payments technology and innovation, the program seeks to inspire more girls to pursue STEM careers and thus reduce the gender gap in these professions. “At Mastercard, our commitment is to bring one million girls closer to topics of technology, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence by 2025, and thus overcome the gender gap related to these careers,” said Laura Cruz, Country Manager of Mastercard Mexico. “On a personal level, it is a pride to be able to contribute to the empowerment of Mexican girls and young women through tools designed to strengthen their education, stimulate their curiosity and promote their potential.
