Rain smiled as Slick stared in awe at the waves. She laughed along with the he-guin ((do you think that works? XD)) and looked at him in the eyes. But before Slick could say more, Rain splashed into the waves themselves and stayed underwater, catching krill and fish for the duo to eat. When she jumped out of the water and shook herself off, she turned back to Slick. "Yes," she murmured softly. "Every Band can do some sort of magic. Ice Banders can freeze things at will, Ocean Banders can control the water, Blizzard Banders can control the weather and the sky up above and Snow Banders can fly. I've always admired those snowy penguins, mocking us with their gifts of flight." Rain chuckled to herself as she recalled the memory when she first saw a Snow Band penguin fly. When Slick asked if something happened to the Bands, her gaze grew wistful and she looked away. "Yes," the she-guin whispered. "A long time ago, something did happen." She glanced at her feet and sighed. She wanted to tell Slick everything but could she trust him?

((Maybe? xD))
I waited in the shore until Rain came back -it probably wasn't the best idea to go out swimming with my tail still injured. Though now I accepted her words after her little show -though I must see these flying penguins do some of their magic sometime. I listened to the tone of Rain's voice... it seemed like she must of gone though a hard time and I nodded. "You don't have to tell me, what's in the past can stay in the past." I said, dismissing the topic. My mind buzzed, taking what I have learned in the past few minutes, until it felt like a light bulb went off in my head.
"Well, the other bands can fly too." I began, as a mischievous sparkle lit my eyes. "The ones that can control the weather can make the wind currents push underneath their bellies and wings so they can stay in the air. The penguins that can control ice can slide around to gather enough momentum, and make a slick ramp pointing up, so they could slide off and get some air time." I said, imagining it in my head, chuckling of the very idea of seeing us flightless birds soar in the sky. "And you and your band could hop into the sea, and make the ocean spit you out with so much force -you'd be spent up into the sky!" I finished, puffing out my chest feathers, pleased that I came up with such a genius solution. Hopefully, this will lighten up the mood a bit! I thought.

((Ahaha! XD))
Rain splashed back onto the shore and shook her feathers out, staying away from Slick so she wouldn't spray him by mistake. She didn't want to scare away the visiter already! He seemed interested in the different magics and he seemed so lighthearted that Rain wanted to tell him everything. Since the beginning of time... But Slick interupted her thoughts. "Well, the other bands can fly too," he said, his eyes sparkling. "The ones that can control the weather can make the wind currents push underneath their bellies and wings so they can stay in the air. The penguins that can control ice can slide around to gather enough momentum, and make a slick ramp pointing up, so they could slide off and get some air time." Rain chuckled while Slick continued, "And you and your band could hop into the sea, and make the ocean spit you out with so much force -you'd be spent up into the sky!" She laughed so much that day that she almost was sick from laughing too much, but it was all worth it. Slick was happy and so was she. He was perfect. "That's true," Rain gasped out between laughs. "But I meant something like flying in the sky wherever they want to. However, I like your solution too!" She looked away, deep in thought and when she turned back, she gazed at Slick with new eyes. "A long time ago, before I was born, all the Bands used to live here. Four equal partners in clans, having fun and not having anything to worry about," Rain began. "I don't know exactly what happened and neither does any of the other leaders. That's why I'm so worried." She glanced away before continuing, "Ocean, the original Ocean Band leader and my old mentor, told me that a dark force chased them away from Polar Island and made them scatter. I was born in South America, where Ocean Band was sheltering for the time being. Snow Band went to Australia, Blizzard Band went to the western side of Antaractica and Ice Band to the eastern side of Antaractica. I spent most of my life in our new heated home, it was when I became deputy that things started changing. We noticed our land was getting smaller and all the trees and fruit were dying. The fish were getting smaller and even the leopard seals that chased us weren't that aggresisive. We didn't know what was happening. Finally, when Ocean was out on patrol, he discovered humans destroying it. Humans were destroying our land. They were causing what we found out was called global warming. So we fled again, this time back here to Polar Island. We had settled where our igloos are right now but we hadn't been there for long before Blizzard approached us. He was the original leader of Blizzard Band and he told us all the Bands had taken over the island. So a fight ensued. And everyone died-" Rain broke off, tears forming in her eyes. "Even Ocean," she managed. "Popsicle, Fleur, Frost and I were the only ones left." She looked away sadly, hoping for some happiness.

((Not much to respond to despite the long post XD Let's get this ball rollin' to the next day so I can take off to Snow Band)) I tired my best to listen to Rain's looooooong story about the Bands, I really did, but I must have dozed off here and there during her speech. It wasn't because I wasn't much of a listener, but I was just dang dead tired. "...were the only ones left." she finished, looking at me. Oh Great 'Guin! That sounded sad, think Slick, think! What could you say that could cheer her up and not sound like you weren't listening! I thought frantically. "You know sometimes at night, when you see the stars shining back at you, and you know they must be far off?" I started and returned her gaze and then looked up to the sky. "Well, the light from all of those stars -far off or not- has reached your eyes from zillions of whale-lengths away just to watch over us, and make sure we don't trip over our own tails during the night." I switched my gaze back to Rain, though I still had to crane me neck up to look at her. "So if stars can watch over us, surely our long-lost brothers and sisters watch over us too and help us during those long nights and days. Your never alone in the world." I reassured the Leader and turned my gaze to the ocean. "Even if it seems that you almost always are." I added with a yawn to boot. It was true most of my adventures where always by myself, and I never exactly fit in the Orphan school -there were too many different types of Penguins there, and I had no Ma or Da to give me attention. Though, I guess after my whole life I must have been used to it. I shook my head from the lonely memories and half-asked, half-joked "Is it okay with you that I stay the night here? You can escort me to Snowflake Band or whatever you call it tomorrow so I can get out of your feathers." ((You might just want to skip ahead to tomorrow morning. ))

Rain smiled at Slick's attempt to cheer her up. She figured he wasn't paying much attention but it was good to get it off of her chest. She laughed too. "Oh Slick," she whispered. "I understand." She shook her head, dazed and tried to make sense of what she was feeling. No! It couldn't be! She vowed never to fall in love again. Not after Ocean... No one ever knew what happened. But Rain vowed to tell them someday, she just hoped they wouldn't hate her. "Its Ice Band and yes," she added. "You're welcome to stay here." And with that, she curled up in her nest and fell asleep, knowing Slick was right there beside her.

*****The Next Day ((Because I can't think of anything. ))***** After a good night's sleep, nothing had really contributed to waking me up. I looked to the sleeping pile of feathers named Rain, and decided not to disturb her and carefully waddled out of the Igloo, trying not to make any noise. After I was a good distance away, I plopped on my belly and slid down to the ocean -my tail feeling better, but it still made it hard to rudder around in the freezing depths under the water. After a few minutes of fishing, I had filled my stomach with enough shrimp, and waddled my way back to the igloo. Gee, today's the day when I go meet that other band of my species, I wonder what they're like? Hopefully Rain won't miss me much. I thought as I stopped in my tracks and turned around to the Ocean. Might as well enjoy the view while I'm still here then.

((It's okay, we'll end this soon and start a new one with Fleur in the Ice Band territory. Then she can do your ceremony.))
Rain awoke to find Slick gone as in he wasn't there! She gasped and raced out of her nest anxiously. What was wrong with her? What if he didn't want to stay? What if he went away and she would never see the he-quin again? Thoughts ran through her mind like a killer whale chasing a baby penguin. She raced outside. "Slick!" she called. "Slick where are you?"
She finally found Slick sitting with his back turned to the Ocean Band leader. He was watching the waves roll through the ocean and slap against the ice. She smiled. Maybe he did enjoy it here after all. She tapped him on the shoulder with one flipper and hoped she didn't scare him. "Is everything alright?" she asked. "Is your tail feeling better?" She traced his tail with one slippery flipper and felt no scraps. It had healed overnight, just as she hoped. It was still pretty raw but at least it wasn't infected. That would be terrrible. Especially with no healer in Ocean Band yet! She cringed and turned back to Slick. "You'll see the ocean again," she promised. "You won't be that far away!" She smiled and stood up. "Ready to go?"

I chuckled at Rain's worries and gently thumped her with my wing playfully. "You sound like a worried Mother! For 'guins sakes, I'm perfectly fine! Both my mind and tail that is." I said, and the then started to prune my chest feathers as the Ocean Band Leader felt my tail. I looked up to her and she and snorted. "I certainly hope that I see the Ocean, otherwise, I'd starve!" I joked, an motioned for her to lead the way. "Well, we 'ought to go now, before it gets any colder, eh?"
((Gah.. short post. >.<))

Rain shivered, noticing how cold Slick must be. He probably wasn't used to the weather on Polar Island. Especially since it was winter... The leader helped Slick to his feet and smacked him back. "Thats for earlier," she scolded but still smiling. She obviously didn't mean it.
When they finally reached the end of Ocean Band territory, Rain sighed and plopped herself down on the ice. "Now we wait," she muttered, staring in the distance. She seemed anxious about something. She knew deep down, she should tell them but today wasn't the day. She sighed again. What was going to happen?
