The Only One

[Puddle]

"You mean more to me than you'll ever know. I do trust you but you won't understand it. I don't want to make you more confused than you already are," he heard Rain whisper.
He turned around to see his leader creeping back to her nest. He sighed. What was the matter with him? He was so conceited sometimes! He smacked himself on the head with his flipper and waddled back into Rain's igloo.
"Rain," he muttered softly. "Are you okay? I didn't mean to hurt you."
He cocked his head to one side and looked at his mentor curiously. Is everything okay?

[Rain]

Rain sighed as Puddle came back in. She knew from his facial expression that he was going to apologize. Of course...this was just perfect...
"Puddle," she began. "I'm fine. I just wanted you to know."
She glanced away, too ashamed to do anything. She took a deep breath and licked her beak. Things weren't well at all actually and Puddle could never know how bad it was.
"Please try to understand."

[Puddle]

Puddle put his flipper on top of Rain's for comfort. It was obvious that she was worried and he wasn't just going to leave her.
"I understand," he said quietly. "And hopefully I'll learn more one day."

[Rain]

Rain's spine tingled. Was he...flirting with her? No no no! That wasn't the way Rain wanted things to go and if Puddle
wanted to be mates, that would be just gross considering- She shook her head and slipped away from her apprentice.
"I hope one day you'll understand too," she whispered and padded back to her nest.
She'd tell Puddle one day...and maybe even Driftee too...
